Duane Strawser

   Duane grew up in Mariposa, CA, just south of Yosemite National Park. A 4th generation Nevada City descendant, he returned in 1996 to raise a family with his wife, Connie, a Grass Valley Native.

     Duane's community engagement includes 25 years in private business, 12 years of municipal service on Nevada City Council, and three terms as Mayor. He currently serves as Board Chair of the Nevada County Transit Commission and is involved with several local non-profits.

  He's knowledgeable in agency operations and has expertise from past work with CDF (CAL FIRE), wildfire equipment operation, budgeting, permitting, land management, grant administration, customer service, and human resources. His experience also includes 2-years at the Air Quality Management District. As the Management Analyst at Fire Safe Council, he brings his experience to the goal of protecting Nevada County residents from future wildfire threats.

      He received his BA in Communications with a minor in Business from Sonoma State University. Duane enjoys music, art, travel, sports, and Nevada County's outdoor recreation and is a competitive cyclist.
